Content

Simulation of complex scenarios using Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) is of growing interest, especially for medical applications. Performing a surgery is a very difficult and complex task and the question of how to train students without to threaten the live of patients is still unsolved. Therefor there is a huge interest in new technologies that allow to simulate surgeries. Surgical simulation and training does on one hand involve issues related to the software and hardware to build such systems. On the other hand, also questions related to learning theory and visual perception have to be addressed in order to build simulators that are meaningful. Besides training, there is also research on using simulators for pre-operative planning. Patient data, e.g. acquired from CT, is used to simulate a surgery in order to identify possible problems and to plan the real procedure.

Essay/Talk
