Dissertation Defense of Alexander Ladikos

Title: Real-Time Multi-View 3D Reconstruction for Interventional Environments

Abstract:

In this thesis we present a real-time 3D reconstruction system aimed at interventional environments. Based on this system we developed several applications to demonstrate the benefits of interventional real-time 3D reconstruction. These applications include a collision avoidance system for automated medical devices and an application for estimating the radiation exposure of the physician. The promising experimental results obtained with these applications show the possible impact of our work for the medical community and illustrate the clinical value of multi-camera systems in the development of intelligent, integrated interventional suites. This is underlined by the fact that the proposed system has already been used by other researchers for recovering the workflow of surgical procedures.
