Human-Computer Interaction for Medical Education and Training

Abstract:

To optimally support medical education, computer systems need to make use of latest visualization techniques, allow for intuitive interaction and use appropriate domain models such that computer systems can interpret the interaction with the user and provide optimal feedback.

This thesis presents two augmented reality (AR) systems for medical education. An AR ultrasound simulator and a system for anatomy education, which creates the illusion that the user can look into her body. New concepts of using AR for medical education are introduced. In particular, this thesis discusses how to build statistical workflow models representing the knowledge domain, and how to use them in medical education.
