Research Interests

My research is driven by the vision of interacting with information systems in a more natural and intuitive way. I strongly believe that 3D user interfaces can improve the user experience in a large number of applications, including but not limited to education, planning, training, support, and entertainment.

Research on mixed and augmented reality user interfaces already enables a wide range of applications, but several key elements need to be improved in order to develop natural user interfaces. My research interests range from multi-modal interaction, better user interface hardware, novel interaction techniques, autonomous scene understanding, to improved visualization techniques.

In my recent work I'm focussing on improving user interfaces for medical procedures through visuo-haptic augmented reality. In addition stimulating visual and auditory senses, haptic feedback plays a vital role in providing realistic user experiences.
