Recording and Analyzing Tracking Data for a Sheet-Metal Processing Robot

Abstract

In cooperation with the institute for metal forming and casting at the faculty of mechanical engineering, we are participating in a project in which a Kuka robot is used to process sheet metal in a driving machine. The goal of this thesis is to analyze the raw tracking data which is used to teach the robot, synchronize it with the driving machine and simplify it where possible.

Tracks from a piece of sheet metal will be recorded with an optical tracking system while a human expert uses the driving machine to deform the workpiece. Your task is to analyze and optimize these tracks using, e.g. the dynamic time warp algorithm or a similar one. Moreover, it is also necessary to synchronize the tracking system and the driving machine to get accurate position data for every stroke.

Requirements

  • good knowledge of C++
  • (optional) mechanical engineering as minor subject
