Top 1: 3D-Modelling Tools Review

  • OpenSource Tools such as Blender and Freeware like Milkshape have proven to be hard to use mainly due to their somewhat awkward user interfaces.
  • The file conversion tool IVCON has been tested and did not comply with our requirements.
  • Alias|Wavefront Maya is our modelling tool of choice, since
    • Version 4.0 of Maya Unlimited is already installed at the lab of the chair for computer graphics,
    • team members are already experienced with that particular software (Tobias, Mustafa)
    • and Maya is capable of exporting VRML2.0 files, for which an OpenInventor importer is freely available.
  • Tobias and Mustafa are responsible for creating a 3D model of the foreceps.

Top 2: A.R.T. Marker Discussion

  • Two Markers for both parts of the foreceps are required for A.R.T. tracking.
  • Oliver will get required parts from the Bruegge software engineering chair.

Top 3: Preliminary Architecture Design

  • On Wednesday some of the team members have sketched a preliminary architecture design, subject to discussion during todays meeting.
  • Mustafa has created a Visio diagram which is supposed to go into the documentation, once the final architecture is set in stone.
  • Tobias gave insights into and by the way refreshed our software engineering knowledge on topics such as the model view controller concept.

Top 4: Visualization Requirements

  • Items to be visulized by us are
    • the foreceps and
    • sensor data delivered by the medical control application
  • Sensor data visualization has been discussed in detail. Among the options for this particular visualization were a fixed 2D-monitor in the corner of the user's viewport and a 3D-monitor located close to the model-patient's body, realized as a plane in 3D space. The latter option is favorized.
  • Transparency issues considering visualizations beneath the model-patient's skin have been addressed. No finals decisions were made.

Top 5: Other Requirements

  • It should be possible to turn single visualizations on and off seperately.
