Invited Talk by Ilja Bezrukov: MR-Based Attenuation Correction for Whole Body PET/MR – Atlas and
Pattern-Recognition Based Methods
Abstract
Attenuation Correction(AC) for Whole Body PET/MR scanners is subject of ongoing research. Inhomogeneities in the magnetic field, motion artifacts and high patient variability make it a challenging problem, as there exists no unique conversion of MR intensities to attenuation coefficients.
Three methods for whole body MR-based AC are presented and evaluated:
a segmentation based approach (SEG) that ignores bone, an atlas-based method(AT) and a method that uses atlas registration and pattern recognition(ATPR). Both the AT & ATPR methods identify bone structures. Additionally, an approach for estimating lung density based on PET consistency information is presented.
