Abstract:
Augmented Reality (AR) used to be regarded as a university research field. It is now seen as a new technology with tremendous potential in many areas. Unknown to most people until recently, AR has been handed to millions of users, increasing people's awareness of the technology, thanks to smart phone based software applications. Three years ago, Bentley Systems has started exploring the potential of AR for infrastructure engineering. This presentation will start with a description of Bentley Systems, a software development company dedicated to sustaining infrastructure. It will be followed by a brief description of its Applied Research group. Finally, potential applications of AR for infrastructure will be described, and the latest results of the group's research work in the field will be presented.
