BA / MA / IDP: Interactive Augmented Reality for Anatomy Teaching

Advisor: Prof. Dr. Nassir Navab
Supervision by: Felix Bork

Project Description

Augmented Reality (AR) as a rapidly evolving technique has tremendous potential to transform the way anatomy is taught in medical education institutions. Instead of relying on text books, static anatomical models, and dissections, medical students can benefit from an AR system overlaying anatomical structures especially for exploring dynamic and functional processes. In previous works, the mirracle-system has been introduced as a first means to provide an inter-active learning experience in the form of an AR magic mirror. In the course of this project, an application will be developed for providing a highly accurate AR overlay of anatomical structures such as bones, muscles, and organs of interest. Multiple subprojects can be defined as Bachelor’s, or Master’s theses, as well as projects for IDP and other practical courses.

Tasks / Subprojects

  • Solid programming knowledge in C++ (required)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Kinect SDK (advantageous)
