Abstract
In the last decades, many advanced computer-based navigation solutions, e.g. using external camera tracking for navigation and augmented reality visualization, and intra-operative visualization systems e.g. Camera Augmented Mobile C-arm (CamC), have been introduced and deployed in the operating room (OR) for surgical practice. However, very few computer-based systems have succeeded to become clinically accepted and even a small number of them were integrated into daily clinical routine. Interactions between surgeons and these advanced complex computer aided intervention (CAI) systems play an important role of successfully deploying systems in the OR. Traditional computer-user interaction hardware, e.g. mouse and keyboard, is very difficult and impractical to be used, since they are hardly sterilized. A cheaper and practical solution based on visual marker detection is proposed for the user interface of CAI systems. In this project, a visual marker based robust and friendly user interface must is designed and developed. The developed user interface is integrated into a CamC system and its functionalities are evaluated with the CamC system.
