Guang-Zhong Yang, Ph.D – Director & Co-founder
Hamlyn Center for Robotic Surgery, Imperial College London, London UK

Professor Guang-Zhong Yang, is Director and Co-founder of the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery, Deputy Chairman of the Institute of Global Health Innovation, Imperial College London, UK. Professor Yang also holds a number of key academic positions at Imperial – he is Director and Founder of the Royal Society/Wolfson Medical Image Computing Laboratory, co-founder of the Wolfson Surgical Technology Laboratory, Chairman of the Centre for Pervasive Sensing.

Professor Yang’s main research interests are in medical imaging, sensing and robotics. In imaging, he is credited for a number of novel MR phase contrast velocity imaging and computational modelling techniques that have transformed in vivo blood flow quantification and visualization. These include the development of locally focused imaging combined with real-time navigator echoes for resolving respiratory motion for high-resolution coronary-angiography, as well as MR dynamic flow pressure mapping for which he received the ISMRM I. I Rabi Award. He pioneered the concept of perceptual docking for robotic control, which represents a paradigm shift of learning and knowledge acquisition of motor and perceptual/cognitive behaviour for robotics, as well as the field of Body Sensor Network (BSN) for providing personalized wireless monitoring platforms that are pervasive, intelligent, and context-aware. Professor Yang is a Distinguished Lecturer for IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, fellow of IEEE, IET, AIMBE, IAMBE, MICCAI, City of Guilds and a recipient of the Royal Society Research Merit Award and The Times Eureka ‘Top 100’ in British Science.

Craig Peters, MD –Chief of Surgical Technology and Translation
Children’s National Medical Center, Washington DC USA

Dr. Peters received his medical training at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and did his Urology residency at Johns Hopkins. He then did a Pediatric Urology Fellowship at Children's Hospital Boston, followed by a two-year surgical research fellowship at Children's and Harvard Medical School. He was on faculty at Children's Hospital Boston, establishing the Pediatric Urology research laboratory and the Minimally Invasive Surgery program and subsequently the first Pediatric Urology robotics program. His research efforts were supported by NIH and focused on the molecular pathophysiology of congenital urinary obstruction. From 2006 to 2010, he was Chief of the Division of Pediatric Urology at the University of Virginia, continuing to develop pediatric robotic surgical practice. He has written extensively on clinical robotic surgery. He is also active as the Pediatric Editor of the Campbell-Walsh Textbook of Urology, previously Associate editor for the Journal of Urology, Chair of the DSMB of the NIH RIVUR study, Chair of the AUA Clinical Guidelines Panel for Vesicoureteral Reflux, chair of the Section on Urology of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and is on the Board of Directors of the American Urological Association. Dr. Peters joined Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC in 2010 as Chief of the Division of Surgical Innovation, Technology and Translation, Professor of Urology and Pediatrics at the George Washington University, as well as a principle investigator in the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation.
