The goal of the Prostate Cancer DREAM challenge is to improve the prediction of survival and toxicity of docetaxel treatment in patients with metastatic castrate resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC).
The primary benefit of this challenge will be to establish new quantitative benchmarks for prognostic modeling in mCRPC, with a potential impact for clinical decision making and ultimately understanding the mechanism of disease progression.
Members of the Chair of Computer Aided Medical Procedures (CAMP) participated in the challenge and were able to win one of three subchallenges. The team's predictive models was a large heterogeneous ensemble of various models. From the ensemble, we selected the best performing models according to cross-validation error and the correlation amongst prediction errors. We believe that the developed models are then fairly generalizable particularly when applied to new data. A detailed description of our solution is available at the challenge's website.
