Title : 3D intraoperative functional imaging with navigated probes

Abstract :

The introduction of preoperative functional imaging systems has enabled the visualization of millimetric marked structures in the body. However, locating these precisely and confirming their complete resection in the operating room (OR) is impossible due to the lack of proper tools. In this work a new strategy for imaging in the OR based on navigated functional probes is developed. Tailored physical models and filters are proposed in order to generate 3D images from limited angle, sparse and irregularly sampled data sets. One instance of this solution is implemented in hardware and software and applied in over 200 patients. This work introduces thus a new approach for intraoperative imaging, which shows a high potential based on the successful experiences with its implemented instance of “freehand SPECT”.
