Billiard Ball Tracking

Type: DA/MA/BA
Advisor: Gudrun Klinker
Supervision by: Christian Waechter

Abstract

In collaboration with the Munich startup company Master-Q a tracking system should be developed that tracks the position of billiard balls in a precise way. This tracking is essential for positioning the billiard cue of the automatic billiard machine developed by Master-Q. Since a most precise position of the balls is requiered for the billiard machine to work, the highest possible accuracy is the major goal of this thesis. Additionally the positions of the balls must be assigned to the corresponding balls on the table.

Tasks

  • Testing the reflection property of billiard balls regarding infrared light
  • Develope Billiard Ball Tracking
    • Influenced by choosen image modality (infrared/color)
    • Circle Detection for identifying billiard balls
    • Pose Estimation for billiard balls on a plane
  • Evaluation
    • Accuracy
    • Robustness

Requirements

Basic knowledge of C++ required. Knowledge of OpenCv is auxiliary. The thesis can be conducted in English or German.
