Abstract
Motion Capturing is the process of acquiring the full 3D motion of a human subject and transferring the information to a digital human body model. In the marker-based setting, the human actor is wearing a set of reflective markers on his limbs that are tracked by an infrared tracking system. Motion Capturing can be used in various applications, wherever it is crucial to create a connection between actions of a real human and a digital environment. Moreover, motion capturing can be used as an input device for activity recognition techniques.
Your Task
The goal of this project (Bachelor Thesis, SEP or equivalent) is to implement a Motion Capturing system in C++ that is based on an existing framework developed at the chair. The system has an interface to the tracking system and computes - in real-time - an optimal fit of a skeleton to the tracking data. Implementation contains a number of challenging aspects, such as the optimization algorithm, that are open for ideas and research by the student. After implementation, the student can freely evaluate the system with respect to numerous parameters, e.g. efficiency, precision, etc. Interested students with very good C++ programming skills and an interest in a topic that bridges screen work and physical interaction are encouraged to get in touch with us!
