Fedora Core 2 (Redhat) install tipps

(work in progress)

Intro

Due to the fact that the DWARF RPM packages are optimised for Suse Linux (see OtherSoftware), it is not straight forward to install DWARF with Fedora the same way. This side should give some hints which RPMs work and which not.

preparatory work

First you should get some RPMs:

Then you have to copy several jar files (you get them easily at sourceforge) to /usr/lib/java/jre/lib/ext

  • bsh.jar
  • graham-kirby-compiler.jar
  • rakiura-jfern.jar
  • rakiura-jrio.jar
  • log4j-1.2.8.jar (put it also in $CLASSPATH)

Working RPMs

Just that you are not afraid of installing DWARF on Fedora: It works and itś not that much handwork!

You can install the following RPM of the OtherSoftware#RpmList site without any "bigger" problems:

  • TNT
  • JAMA
  • simage
  • omniORB - if you want Python support you have to compile it your own (see next section)
  • omniNotify - same as omniORB

Compiling on your own

Just follow the instructions in the READMe files provided. Normally you should do the following steps:
  1. cd
  2. mkdir build
  3. cd build
  4. ../configure
  5. make
  6. (make check)
  7. make install (as superuser)

  • Coin3D
  • SoQT?
  • download the sources for
    • omniORB
    • omniNotify
    • omniORBpy and compile them on your own
