HMLP - Head Mounted Laser Projector
The Portable or Head Mounted Laser Projector is the prototype of a user centered 3D instruction placement system for industrial applications. The information provided by the system distinguishes between
where-to-act and what-to-do. The augmented reality laser projector
displays the simple where-to-act information directly on an object
in the environment. A standard screen is used to display the more
complex what-to-do information.
The first pictures shows the helmet with the built in laser projector, the second a laser projected augmentations on a white body (highlighting a whelding point) .
The laser projector system was adapted to the quality assurance process in the white body production of cars. In the series production of white bodies the quality of their welding points has to be checked in regular intervals. The points to be checked vary
from one door to the next, even if the same type of door is checked - this has statistical reasons dealing with the occurrence of negative
findings. Points have to be checked with a variety of different methods: visual inspection, ultrasonic test, destruction test. We support the worker in this process with our Augmented Reality Laser Projection System: an augmented laser projected higligting shows directly on the white body where the welding point is located and a normal TFT-Screen displays additional information (what-to-do) to the worker.
