Siemens_Trip.JPG

In the scope of the lecture Intra-operative Imaging & Visualization? a group of 21 students and PhD candidates made a one day field trip to Siemens Medical in Forchheim and Erlangen. http://www.medical.siemens.com

AX in Forchheim (9:00-11:00am):

We visited the department for Angio and X-ray devices, got an introduction to the C-Arm devices and saw exemplary devices as well as their production line by Dr. Klingenbeck and colleagues. Dr. Klingenbeck concluded the visit of AX with a presentation about the application domain of 2D/3D registration.

CT in Forchheim (11:00-12:45am):

In the department of computed tomography Dr. Raupach gave an excellent presentation about cone-beam reconstruction and recent development in computed tomography. We also had a guided tour through the CT production line.

MR in Erlangen (14:00-16:00pm):

After a "more general" Siemens introduction, we add an excellent presentation of MR and its current applications by Dr. Jens Guehring and colleagues. We had the opportunity of observing a very interesting live demo on the use of MR in neurosurgery.

SP in Erlangen (16:00-17:00pm):

Dr. Graumann and colleagues gave a talk about SP (Special Programs) in general, followed by a more specific presentation of the mobile 3D C-Arm, its latest development and further challenges and limitations.
