Interventional Imaging and Image Processing (IN2273)

The participants will learn the basics of interventional imaging and image processing. The focus of the lecture will be on interventional x-ray imaging technology. The lecture will cover both topics of 2D as well as 3D imaging. We will particularly focus on recent research topics such as cardiac and perfusion imaging in the interventional suite.

  • New time in November (Thursdays 8:30 am - 10.00 am and 10.30 am - 12.00 noon)

Exam

The exam will be conducted in form of Elevator Pitches (2 minutes) with subsequent discussion round. It is possible to team up, but topics have to be shared such that each team member is able to give an own elevator pitch that is substantially different from the others. Each team member will also be examined on his/her own.

Each student is asked to choose a random topic in the context of interventional imaging and image processing. It is expected that chosen topics advance the course level, e.g.

  • a novel imaging modality that could have potential impact on image guidance for surgery and/or interventions
  • a new aspect on conventional imaging modalities with large potential for interventional guidance or visualization
  • cutting-edge research results in computer aided interventions (CAI) building up on the fundamentals given in the IIIP course

In contrast to scientific presentations, elevator pitches aim at presenting the core idea in a minimum amount of time without or with minimum support of digital media. The effect of such elevator pitches is usually measured upon whether the presenter has gained enough interest among the audience. In order to achieve this goal, you are free to use any sort of additional material (e.g. drawings or pins on white board, very simple mockups/prototypes, interaction with audience). Although the use of digital media is not recommended, you are of course free to show videos and images. But please keep in mind that the effect of these may be limited.

In case a student is not able to find a suitable topic, we will assign a topic to her/him (potentially also assigning another team). You are also welcome to contact the course instructors at any time (via email) to discuss your topic selection with them. Please understand that due to our other duties we may offer you remote chats (e.g. Skype, Google Hangout).

Deadlines listed below are hard. If you miss a deadline without notice, you fail the course.
