Registration

  • TUM students: Registration is only possible using the new matching system linked in TUMonline. You will be notified by email (Informatics faculty) how the new system works.

  • Exchange students without TUMonline account: Please send a nice mail to Matthias Wieczorek () to indicate that you want to participate, including your name, your birthday, program of study and Matrikelnummer (if you already have one). We will then enroll you in the course, given you match the requirements (Master's student).

List of Topics

Basis for the seminar is the book "Linear and Nonlinear Inverse Problems with Practical Applications" by J.L. Mueller and S. Siltanen (available online). The sessions will deal with the following topics:

  • Session 1: Basics & Properties of Computed Tomography (Chapter 2.3, 3.1, 3.3-3.6)
  • Session 2: Regularization: Truncated SVD (Chapter 4 to 4.3, 4.4.3)
  • Session 3: Regularization: Tikhonov (Chapter 5.1-5.3)
  • Session 4: Regularization: Total Variation (Chapter 6)
  • Session 5: Regularization: Wavelet-Sparsity (Chapter 7)
  • Session 6: Regularization: Curvelet-Sparsity (assorted papers)


Regulations

In this Master Seminar (formerly Hauptseminar), each student is asked to select one of the given Topics based on the book "Linear and Nonlinear Inverse Problems with Practical Applications" by J.L. Mueller and S. Siltanen (available online). In order to successfully complete the seminar, participants have to fulfill these requirements - all three will influence the final grade:

  • Presentation: The selected book parts are presented by groups of max. 2 students to the other participants. Each presentation should contain one theoretical part (30min + 15min discussion) and a practical part where the presenters shall guide the other participants to implement the discussed methods in Matlab (45min). For presentations use the CAMP templates for PowerPoint  CAMPmaster.pot, or Latex:  CAMP-latex-template.zip.
  • Written Report: A document of maximum 4 pages is written by each group and submitted until 31.01.2015. Please download and use the LNCS Latex template  llncs2e.zip.
  • Attendance: Participants have to participate actively in all seminar sessions.

Each presentation is followed by a discussion and everyone is encouraged to actively participate. The report must include all references used and must be written completely in your own words. Copy and paste will not be tolerated. Both report and presentation have to be done in English.

Schedule

The seminar consists of a preliminary meeting, an introductory meeting and seminar sessions. All seminar participants are expected to be present at every session and to actively participate in the discussion.
