The Avicenna Roentgen Collaboration

Avicenna: Abū ‘Alī Sīnā (ابوعلى سينا) or latinized Avicenna (980-1037) is considered by many as the “father of modern medicine”. In his 450 books he was concentrating on philosophy and medicine many of them created during his stay in Rai, in the vicinity of modern Tehran.
In his 14-volume The Canon of Medicine, which was a standard medical text in Western Europe for seven centuries he classifies and describes diseases, and outlines their assumed causes. Hygiene, simple and complex medicines, and functions of parts of the body are also covered.
Roentgen: Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen (1845-1923) was a German physicist, who, on November 8, 1895, produced and detected electromagnetic radiation in a wavelength range today known as x-rays or Roentgen Rays. Therefore he earned first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901 and is considered as the “father of medical imaging and navigated surgery”.

The partnership and
collaboration between the universities in Munich and Tehran focus on joint education and research activities of young scientists in the field of computer aided medical procedure and augmented reality. This collaboration includes exchange programs of students and young professionals as well as summer schools and the design, definition and conduction of courses and a curriculum of mutual interest.
Initial investigators of the collaboration include from Iran Dr. A. Ahmadian (TUMS, Teheran), E. Fatemizadeh, PhD (Sharif University, Teheran) and S. K. Setarehdan, PhD (Univesity of Teheran) and from the Germany Dr. H. Feussner (Klinikum rechts der Isar, TUM, Munich), Gudrun Klinker , PhD (CAMPAR, TUM, Munich) Dr. Nassir Navab (CAMPAR, TUM, Munich).
