2nd Joint Advanced Summer School 2004, Course 3: Ubiquitous Tracking for Augmented Reality
Technischer Bericht der TU München, TUM-I0417, June 2004 (bib)

This report summarizes the results of Course 3 - Ubiquitous Tracking for Augmented Reality - of the 2nd Joint Advanced Summer School held in St. Petersburg in March/April 2004. We start with a survey of current Augmented Reality (AR) and Ubiquitous Computing (ubicomp) applications. Based on the gained insights in the application domain, we present the key mathematical concepts needed to represent position and orientation in 3D space. Afterwards, an overview of the general concepts and the mathematical background of sensor fusion for AR is given, followed by the mathematics of calibration of AR systems. The report concludes with a presentation of the concepts of Ubiquitous Tracking, a formal model for describing and implementing large scale sensor networks in combined ubicomp and AR applications.
