X-ray tensor tomography -- linear system approach to reconstruction
International Conference on Image Formation in X-Ray Computed Tomography, Bamberg, Germany, July 2016 (bib)

X-ray Tensor Tomography is a recently developed modality enabling the reconstruction of anisotropic scattering tensors using an X-ray grating interferometer. The reconstruction problem can be formulated as a large-scale linear system, which allows the application of regular reconstruction algorithms. As opposed to the block-based reconstruction approaches used so far, in this paper we suggest using a conventional reconstruction algorithm not based on blocks (the conjugate gradient method). We show first results applied to data acquired of a carbon fiber sample, demonstrating marked advantages in convergence speed while achieving comparable image quality.
