Introduction to TWiki

  • Jörg Traub gave us a short introduction to TWiki
  • A summary of a text formatting commands can be found following the link TextFormattingRules found at the bottom of the page when changing a topic

Field of application

  • a coarse description of the application area of our project was given by Jörg Traub and Tobias Sielhorst
  • field of application will be the endoscopic assisted operation on the spinal column:
    • unstable fractures of the thoracic and lumbar spine
    • degenerative narrowing of the spinal canal
    • revision surgery, implant removal
  • the access to the surgical object must be well planned to avoid possible injuries of major blood vessels, organs or nerve structures
  • hence a CT scan is taken preoperatively, which is then used in combination with a C-arm CT device to find entry points for the endoscopic equipment

Visualisation

  • visualisation of preoperatively acquired CT slice data using a HMD
  • the slice displayed should be progressively selectable
  • possibly provided visualisation techniques:
    • volume rendering
    • DDR (digitally reconstructed radiographs)

Implementation

  • we will use C++ in conjunction with CAMPAR
  • nearly everything needed to do visualization on HMD hardware exists within CAMPAR
  • our task is to combine several modules to a new visualisation component
  • code documentation will be done using doxygen

Next meeting

  • presentation of a short abstract describing our project
  • next meeting will be on 21.3.2005 at 10:00 in Pettenkoferstrasse
