In the frame of the recently established focus group "Intraoperative Therpy" by the TUM Institute for Advanced Study (TUM-IAS) we evaluate the possibilities for targeted intra- operative low energy X-Ray radiation therapy (ioRT) which is guided by different imaging modalities. IoRT was found to be useful and feasible in the multidisciplinary management of many solid tumors.
Tumors are identified in MR images that are provided by our clinical partner. The goal of this project is to use tracking data (NDI optical tracking system) to track the X-ray source and overlay its dose profile in real-time onto the MR image. The software framework is the free and open source 3DSlicer (slicer.org) which is used to load the MR Dicom images and connect to the optical tracking system. Loading and visualization of the discretized dose profile has to be implemented in 3DSlicer.
Requirements
The student should be interested in the topic of medical imaging and novel tracking and visualization applications. You will work with 3D Slicer and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. Basic C++ knowledge is required.
