Translational research with students - first experience from a new lecture format in image guided surgeries - innovation creation?!
25th International Conference of the International Society for Medical Innovation and Technology, iSMIT 2013 in Baden-Baden, Germany, September 05-07, 2013 (bib)

Can students (Biomedical Master) actually create translational innovation with little to no previous knowledge of image guided procedures? Will they notice different things then an experienced user and researcher in this field would recognize? The idea was to expose a selected group of students (max. 15 in groups of 3) to actual image guided procedures prepared with basics on imaging procedures, actual applications, navigation/tracking/segmentation, engineering approaches, and tools to identify innovation and then send them out to analyze a surgery based on multiple parameters and hope for a subsequent detailed proposal on how to improve and enhance the setup.
