Abstract

In this thesis, the innovative 10-Finger-based touchscreen keyboard goes into its forth iteration. To overcome the lack of tactile feedback, we use unique gesture-to-key mappings for each finger according to the ten-finger touch-typing method. As a key feature, the Gestyboard only accepts keystrokes when they are performed with the finger corresponding to the ten-finger touch-typing method. This way, missing a keystroke is not possible, and therefore blind typing is naturally supported by the concept. The goal of the thesis is to implement different new input concepts and to conduct an user-centered evaluation to the first tendencies of the new input concepts.

Thesis Language

German or English.

Student requirements

  • Good knowledge about the general Model-View-Controller concept
  • Good knowledge with C#

Student tasks

  • Literature research in Text Input in general, Text Input evaluations, and User Interfaces
  • Carefully read and study the previous iterations of the Gestyboard and their results
  • Documentary research of the needed tools and technology (Self-Introduction in the used technology)
  • Time scheduling of the whole thesis
  • Realize the new input concepts (You will learn about the new concepts when you meet your Supervisor (Tayfur Coskun)
  • Evaluate the implementation in a small User Study to get first feedback for the new input concepts.
  • Analyse evaluation results
  • Write your thesis
  • Hand in your thesis

What is expected from the Student

  • Very motivated in general
  • Very interested in the topic
  • Good communication with your supervisor (Tayfur Coskun)
  • Perfect Teamwork abilities

What I offer to the Student

  • Very good and approved supervising
  • Understanding from your supervisor
  • Very good communication with your supervisor
  • Your supervisor in interested in the scientific results of this work.
  • Depending on the quality of the student's work, the student will be Co-Author of each paper which will be written by your supervisor with the 4.0 version of the Gestyboard

A video of the Gestyboard 2.0 version. Gestyboard 3.0 has mainly its diferences in the realisation of the implementations. Conceptually and visually, it is similar to the GB 2.0 version.
